biography
Billy Horschel was born in Grant, Florida, United States on December 7, 1986, to Billy Horschel Sr and Kathy Horschel. He attended Bayside High School in neighboring palm bay. He received an athletic scholarship to go to the University of Florida.
Whilst there, he played for the Florida Gators men’s golf team for three years. He was a four-time All-American, including three first-team honors, and the Southeastern Conference (SEC) player of the year in 2007 and 2009.
Horschel won the individual medalist honors at the 2006 United States Amateur, shooting a two-day score of 138 (60-78, −5) at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
His opening round of 60 was an 18–hole tournament and a USGA record. He failed to make it past the third round of match play. He also played in the 2006 United States Open, but he missed the cut.
career
Horschel turned professional in 2009. Deciding to become a professional, he wanted to make an immediate impact on the tour he gained in 2010. However, an injury kept him from joining the PGA Tour full-time. He however somehow regained his Tour Card.
In February 2011, almost two years after he had made the decision, this gentleman shrugged everything off and made the cut at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The Zurich Classic of New Orleans was his first win on tour.
In the 2013 U.S., Horschel held the joint lead with Phil Michelson, at the halfway stage of the tournament. Playing in his first major as a professional, he was one of only two players under par after the second round, hitting all 18 of Merion’s greens in regulation.
He shot rounds of 72–74 over the weekend to finish at five-over-par for the tournament and four strokes behind eventual winner Justin Rose. Horschel finished T4 in his first major as a professional and moved up to 34th in the world rankings and 4th in the FedEx Cup standings.
The 2014 FedEx Champion has six other PGA Tour victories too. This man also has one International win (the 2021 BMW PGA Championship) on top of this.
The Florida native attained his highest-ever PGA ranking (Number 11) in June 2022. Although he’s a little late to the party, it’s better than never arriving.
In September 2022, Horschel was selected for the U.S. team in the 2022 Presidents Cup; he won one and lost two of the three matches he played.
Billy Horschel Wife
Horschel and his wife Brittany were married in 2010 and the couple has three children: Skyler Lillian Horschel, Colbie Rae Horschel, and Axel Brooks Horschel.
The Horschels met in Florida and started dating after they first met in a junior golf tournament in 2004. Brittany was also a golf player at the time, but her wrist injury ended her competitive career, which was more traumatic for Brittany than they anticipated.
The golfer had a public meltdown, and it was later revealed that his wife was dealing with alcoholism. She was lying to him too. However, this man had the patience to work with her and get her the help she needed to get her life back on track. Brittany has been sober for a while now.
